HOLIDAY HOME OR A FULLY SERVICED APARTMENT

City center-based spacious and modern apartments, perfectly placed for exploring lively Nova Gorica and the region’s numerous natural attractions.

Nova Gorica, designated European capital of culture in 2025, is located just one hour’s drive from Ljubljana and 45 minutes from Trieste. The town is easily accessible from a selection of airports and also well-placed for getting out and about in the region.

Before you do that though, be sure to explore the city, either on foot, including a gentle walk along the nearby Koren stream or by bike (standard or electric rental models available).

Saunter down to one of the many excellent local restaurants such as the Tavern Ošterija Žogica with its views of the Soča river and the famous Solkan Bridge, or the Bar Fabrika for gin and mouthwatering burgers.

If you’re a keen cyclist, you’ll certainly want to try some of the cycle trails in the region. Start off with the stunning 10km bike trail along the Soča river from Solkan to Plave – try not to be distracted by the views of the Solkan Bridge!

If you’re feeling energetic, the trail continues all the way to Kobarid. Other adrenaline-packed local activities are available at the Soča Fun Park where you can get your thrills climbing in the tree-tops and whizzing on zip wires over the Soča River.

Hikers and history enthusiasts should also head for the Sabotin hill (above the Soča river). Littered with a network of ditches and caves built by the Austro-Hungarian and Italian armies, the area is great for hiking and cycling. Other hiking trails of note include one to the Franciscan monastery at Sveta Gora (682m). Nearby castles include Gorizia Castle (3km), the 13th century pretty Rihemberk Castle (20 minutes’ drive).

Other highlights include Štanjel village, for its Karst architecture and culture, and Grado, an atmospheric town situated on the Italian side of the border between Slovenia and Italy and only an hour away by car.

Fancy a day trip to the seaside? The coast is just 30 minutes away by car and Sistiana and Duino, both in Italy, are popular day trip destinations for locals.

This is also, of course, an area of huge gastronomic interest. Head into the Vipava Valley, a region famed for its fabulous wines as much as its wild meadows and choose from a wide selection of farm tourism experiences. Other culinary and wine experiences are available at nearby Goriška Brda, part of the Karst region.

If you enjoy travelling by train, you’re also in luck. A journey on the UNESCO Bohinj Railway to Nova Gorica, passing the famous Bohinj tunnel and the Solkan Bridge, is memorable.
