Description
Spacious Ljubljana Apartment On Slovenska Street With Unique Architectural History

The recent renovation of Ljubljana apartment Slovenska has really made the most of the space. With a bedroom at either end of the apartment (plus a sofa bed in the living room) it has room to sleep up to 6 and offers enough privacy for two couples, or space for an extended family.
If a central location is important to you, this apartment hits the mark – it is just minutes to both the business center of the city and the Old Town. The modern interior combined with original features such as the herringbone hardwood flooring gives this apartment a contemporary loft feel. There is the bonus of an extensive glazed-in balcony plus the building has a roof terrace with nice views.
Central Ljubljana Location

We can say with great confidence that Ljubljana apartment Slovenska has one of the best locations in the city for both business visits and sightseeing. It is very easily accessible and offers an excellent starting point for visiting some of the city’s best sights at less than 200 meters from Ljubljana’s historical center and about 500 meters from the Old Town.
For business travelers it is close to Ljubljana’s business center, opposite the Stock Exchange and all major banks.
The main bus and railway station are also within walking distance, approximately 500 meters from this Ljubljana apartment, and although in the past this used to be one of the city’s busiest streets, Slovenska Street is now quieter thanks to a project that closed it to most traffic.
Buses, taxis, bikes and residents now have access to the street and it’s still nice and close for getting to the city’s main roads.
What the Building Offers

The Kozolec Building has a total of nine levels that consists of shops along the street front, then two levels of offices, and six levels of residential apartments. The roof has a nice terrace with some good views over Ljubljana.
You don’t have to venture far at all to get some groceries as there’s a supermarket on the ground floor and it’s open 7 days a week until 10pm. There’s also a handy pharmacy, bakery and other shops here, while close by there’s a good range of restaurants, from fast food to up-market establishments.
There is an underground level in the building that is connected to a public parking garage so you can park your car and access the apartment without leaving the building. In addition there is an outdoor parking lot about 150 meters away, however, please note that both of these parking lots are public and a parking fee applies. If you are bringing a car you can also park in the nearby Tivoli Park which offers free overnight parking.
A car isn’t absolutely necessary though, thanks to the central location. You can easily walk to many attractions, take a taxi from right outside the building, or grab a bicycle from the free bicycle rental station, also situated right outside the building.
Our FLA apartment is on the first level of apartments, so it’s actually the third floor of the building, and can be reached by elevator or stairs.

As you walk in through the entrance door the first thing you will notice is how bright and inviting this modern space is. Plenty of windows let in natural light to the open plan living room, dining room and kitchen.
From this initial entrance hall is a pair of doors, one leading to the living room and the other directly into the kitchen, while to the right the hallway opens out to reveal a large closet, great for storage, a door into the master bedroom at the end of the hallway, and a door into the family bathroom.

The family bathroom is a good size. It’s a nice modern, white suite that has a bathtub with shower, a toilet and sink, as well as a heated towel rail. Not visible in the photos is a very useful washing machine.

Master Bedroom with En-Suite Bathroom
At the end of the hallway you’ll find the Master Bedroom. Separated from the main living area, the master bedroom is private and peaceful, and benefits from its own en-suite bathroom.
The bedroom is a lovely light room that enjoys access to the glazed-in balcony.
There is a desk for working, a closet for storing your clothes, and a door into the en-suite which is also a nice, bright room.

The en-suite has a corner shower, toilet and sink, providing everything you need, and leaving the family bathroom for the exclusive use of whoever’s using the second bedroom.

Open Plan Living
Back down the hallway is the open plan living area. The beautiful herringbone hardwood flooring draws you into this bright and inviting space that will serve as the hub of your stay in our Ljubljana apartment Slovenska. The sofa is comfortable to sit on and equally as comfortable as a bed as this converts into a sofa bed that allows this 2 bedroom Ljubljana apartment to sleep up to 6 guests.

As you enter you can’t help but be drawn to the large windows and door out onto the glazed balcony. The balcony runs the entire length of the apartment and provides a good deal of extra living space, great for socializing or for sitting and watching over the street below.
There are items on display from the apartment’s days as an architect’s workshop, and when you’ve finished looking at all these unique things you can watch television on the big screen Smart TV.

There is also WiFi available in the apartment, and air conditioning system for use during the summer.
At one end of the living area is the kitchen. It comes equipped with everything you’ll need for a short or longer stay including a dishwasher.
There’s an oven and a ceramic glass hob, microwave, and plenty of crockery and utensils.
Spacious Second Bedroom or an Office?

At the other end of the living room a door leads through to the second bedroom. Unlike many second bedrooms in holiday apartments in Ljubljana this one is an excellent size. It has a large bed with ample space around it and includes a desk by the window, and a closet. If you’re visiting Ljubljana for business and are interested in staying in Ljubljana apartment Slovenska for longer periods, this second bedroom can be easily converted into an office or workshop space for you.

Renowned Kozolec Heritage Building
On first glance the building in which our Ljubljana apartment rental is located may not seem anything special, but in fact this is a renowned building in Slovenia. Constructed in the 1950s it was named Kozolec, meaning “hayrack” because of its skeletal frame and distinctive horizontal lines that are typical of a unique Slovene wooden hayrack that was first developed in the 16th century. This heritage building was designed by architect Edo Mihevc and is now one of the most important examples of modern Slovene architecture.
Despite its renown, it’s still not known for sure why the Kozolec Building was initially constructed. Some believe that the plan was for the apartments to house high political and trade representatives, while others think it was to house the Western Army Headquarters during the Zone A and B period (Paris Peace Treaty, 1947). The two office levels of the building (beneath the apartments) would have been for the command’s operational rooms while the apartments would have been for high military representatives.
The unique architectural history does not end there though, before the renovation that made this into the Ljubljana vacation apartment you see today, this apartment was one of the workshops of architect, Aleš Šeligo. Dotted around the renovated apartment you’ll find elements from the different projects that Šeligo worked on, such as his piece titled “Architecture and Water”.
Great space for 6 people, within walking distance of everything. I would definitely return for another stay because we really enjoyed it.
