At a glance
Not so very long ago, in 1933, an architect named Vladimir Šubic designed what was, at that time, the tallest skyscraper in all of Yugoslavia—and the tallest residential building in all of Europe.
Standing at 70.35 meters, or 231 feet, the Nebotičnik towers over central Ljubljana, allowing for some of the most quintessential views of our gorgeous city.

The Tallest Residential Building in All of Europe
But it’s not just residential. The ground and first levels offer a variety of shops; the second through fifth have offices; whilst the sixth to ninth floors have private residences. The top three floors offer a café, a bar, and an observation deck.
Leaving is never a necessity; the tower is worlds within worlds. What’s more, the building holds timeless architecture, with an Art Deco spiral staircase that spins from the bottom to the tenth floor. It mixes modernity with antiquity rather well, joining the past with the present.
It’s Really Something to See
The tower was once home to several rather famous Slovenians, including the current owner’s grandmother, Marija Vogelnik—an architect, painter, danger, teacher, and critic. In the ‘30s, she was a student of Joze Plecnik, who built about half of the center of Ljubljana.
The apartment’s owner, an architect in her own right, incorporated several functional solutions into the design. The sixth-floor apartment maintains its rather large windows, offering an incredible amount of light and an absolutely breathtaking view to the east.
The apartment is 60 m2, with a central, open layout. As it’s situated in the corner of the building, light comes from two different directions, making you feel you’re in a canopy in the sky.
Creative Living and Working
“Cozy and bright”
The space is perhaps best used for smaller groups or corporate rentals. Its setup promotes and enables creative work, offering a large working table for collaboration and even a sitting ball. It’s a prime space for fresh ideas to blossom.
Straight ahead from the entrance, find the bright, open space, with a small, but practical and fully functioning kitchen. You’ll have everything you need, whether you’re dining in or simply snacking. The space is partially separated, giving a multi-room feel to the open plan.
The living room offers a television screen, complete with cable, and a comfortable couch, which can be used as a sofa bed for an extra guest.
Bedrooms and bathroom
From the living room, find the master bedroom, which offers a queen-sized bed and windows that face both east and north. The bedroom has a modern flair, upping this “modern mixed with antiquity” feel. The second bedroom is simplistic, with a single bed and a north-facing window.
Flowers and plants scattered throughout the apartment lend a fresh, relaxing feel, making this your home away from home—your refuge in the “clouds” over Ljubljana.
The apartment leads into a small entryway. On the left, find a bathroom with a bathtub, alongside a separate toilet. The flat also features a washing machine—often a rarity when traveling.
Terrace on Top
The tower is always open, with private elevators that require keys to get to the residential floors. As it’s situated in the center of everything Ljubljana has to offer, you’ll want for nothing on your stay in one of the most culturally important landmarks in all of Slovenia.
