Description
A Spacious & Bright One Bedroom Apartment
You can read more about the unique history of this building and the role it played in the literature of Slovenia’s most famous poet, France Preseren, here. But now, a little more about the one-bedroom apartment in Julija’s Palace.
Central Location on Preseren Square
Take just a couple of steps from Preseren Square and you reach Julija’s Palace. The building is in fact so close to the square that all windows overlook it, and there are impressive views of Ljubljana Castle, up on Castle Hill, just in the background.
This really is a very central location for spending time in the pretty Old City and for soaking up the atmosphere of the lively square and streets surrounding it. There is always something happening – by summer the outdoor cafes and restaurants are a great place to sit and watch the world go by, while during the winter this is one of the top locations for Christmas celebrations.
Welcome to Julija’s Palace
As you enter through the gorgeous original solid wood double doors, take a moment to look up and say hello to Julija, the apartment’s namesake. Coming in through the doors you’re greeted by a large reception room with a wide staircase and already you’ll get a sense for the history and character of the place. Upstairs is a wide hallway with beautiful arches and detailed floor tiles, and both the one and two bedroom apartments are off this hallway.
The one bedroom Wolfova Street apartment, along with the rest of the building, was meticulously restored by the owners who uncovered original features and furnished both apartments with traditional furniture. Some of the pieces have been in the family for generations, and all are faithful to the 19th century Biedermaier rustic style, so they are wooden and handmade.
The Bright Living Room
The apartment entry leads straight into the living room, or salon. This spacious room is bright and inviting with a lovely hardwood floor and warm colors on the walls and furnishings, giving the whole room a homey feel.
The two sofas and additional easy chair provide plenty of seating, and if there are more than two guests staying one of these sofas converts into a sofa bed allowing the apartment to accommodate up to 4 adults.
From the living room there are doors on either side. To the left is the kitchen, and to the right is the bedroom. The apartment’s bathroom is accessed through the kitchen.
Kitchen with Everything You’ll Need
The kitchen is modern though it has an elegant look and feel to it more in keeping with the history of the building. Everything you’ll need is here including plenty of storage space, oven, microwave, dishwasher and toaster, and there are plenty of utensils, crockery, and pots and pans for your use. But, being right on Preseren Square you’ll have such easy access to places to eat we suspect you may not even want to cook in the apartment!
The Cozy and Comfortable Bedroom
Opposite the kitchen and off the living room is the apartment’s bedroom. The soft color on the walls matches the bed linens and although the room is not huge there is plenty of space to walk around the double bed. The whole ambiance of this room is one of peace and quiet, and with the soundproof windows you should be guaranteed a good night’s sleep.
The storage room has a door from the bedroom as well as providing another entry point into the apartment from the common hallway. There is ample hanging space and coat hangers provided within the two large closets, plus you’ll also find the iron and ironing board in here, should you need it.
The Modern Bathroom
The bathroom in our one bedroom Wolfova Street apartment is accessed from the kitchen. This modern fitted bathroom has some nods to its past in the patterned tiles – they have a flower motif like much of the furniture in the apartment does, carefully selected to match the Biedermaier style mentioned above. There is no bath tub in the bathroom though it does have a shower, and, this is where you’ll find the washer and dryer too.
Added Extras
The one bedroom Wolfova Street apartment also has some added extras to insure you have a pleasant stay. There’s air conditioning in each room and underfloor heating in the bathroom. The bedroom has a luxury ergonomic bed with fluffy down pillows and duvet (though non-allergenic pillows are available). There is a flat screen TV in the living room with cable, and there’s Wi-Fi available. If you’re visiting with children we have a high chair, crib and toys available by request.
