Full story
Extending over two floors, with a floor space of 90m², this holiday home in Gozd Martuljek is an excellent choice for families looking for an active holiday in Slovenia. With a lovely mature garden, there’s space for the children to play as well as an attractive terrace with dreamy views – the perfect spot for breakfast with a view!

Amazing and private backyard with a shed for storing bikes (accessed upon arrangement)
This is an excellent area for cycling enthusiasts. The 145km long Trans Karavanke mountain biking MTB route, which runs from Jezersko to Tromeja, via Kranjska Gora, is a glorious way to explore the mountain and forest trails on two wheels.
A garden shed is an added convenience for guests to store their bikes (up to 6 bikes). Note that you need to prearrange the access. In addition, a basement houses all laundry facilities, including detergents and airers.
For digital nomads, there’s Wi-fi (fiber optic) and a laptop-friendly workspace in one of the bedrooms. Or, better still, why not get inspiration from your surroundings and set up your desk on the main terrace or upper balcony!
Location

Choose from a selection of walking trails directly from the village, including one to the famous Martuljek waterfalls
The holiday home is set in a quiet lane in Gozd Martuljek, with several other holiday cottages. Just 2km from the home, you can take advantage of the superb swimming pool and spa complex in Hotel Špik, which also has an excellent restaurant.
Martuljek or Špik mountain chain, which rises above Gozd Martuljek, is a real-world for lovers of unspoiled wilderness. The area of this mountain group with the valley of the Martuljek stream was declared a landscape park in 1949, and since 1981 it has been part of the Triglav National Park.
Choose from a selection of walking trails directly from the village, including one to the famous Martuljek waterfalls. Other trails lead to local peaks and the picturesque lofty alpine village of Srednji vrh with mesmerizing views on the Julian Alps.
The pretty alpine resort of Kranjska Gora is just 5 minutes away and you’ll find a good choice of restaurants and bars there. The resort is a very popular choice for intermediate-level skiers but, unsurprisingly, it’s equally popular as a base for summer holidays thanks to the sheer range of activities – hiking, biking and other adrenaline-pumping experiences – as well as the area’s extraordinary beauty.
From Kranjska Gora, there’s easy access to the Triglav National Park or you can take a short walk to Lake Jasna, a heavenly place to soak up the sun and take refreshing dips.

For anyone keen to try a local via Ferrata route, head for the Ferrata Hvadnik, an easy 1,5km (20 min walk from the house) and if you’re only a beginner, go to Mojstrana (10 minutes by car) where two graded via Ferrata routes lead to the top of the Grančišče wall and are also suitable for beginners and a great opportunity to introduce the kids to this thrilling activity (all the equipment available on the spot).
When you feel like venturing a little further afield, the glacial Lake Bled, with its 11th-century fairytale Bled Castle, is only 25 minutes by car from the house.

Alternatively, for something truly dramatic, with plenty of twists and turns, head for the Vršič Mountain Pass, the highest road pass in the eastern Julian Alps. Vršič is the starting point for the Mala Mojstrovka and Jalovec (for experienced hikers) and Prisojnik (for very experienced hikers).
For easy family-friendly hikes, we suggest visiting the Slemenova Špica mountain. Along the way, don’t miss the Russian Chapel and the face of the Heathen Maiden on the mountainside.
