Check Out the Tasty Foods of Ljubljana’s Open Kitchen
September 24, 2015
Love food? You’re going to love Ljubljana’s Open Kitchen!
Part food festival, part food market, Odprta Kuhna (Open Kitchen) is an extravaganza for your taste buds, whether you’re a gourmet foodie or just someone who loves trying out different foods.
Every Friday between the middle of March and into October, Ljubljana’s Old Town plays host to a huge “open kitchen” featuring some of the finest foods from the city’s best restaurants as well as from regional and international chefs, food and beverage vendors and local farms.
Unlike a usual food market, all the food sold here has already been prepared and cooked so you get to try the end result while also enjoying the atmosphere of the Old Town.
Only two or three minutes walk from the stalls of the Open Kitchen is our… Julija’s Palace. It’s set just across the River Ljubljanica from the Old Town, making this a great place to stay in Ljubljana to see the sights and to discover the many tasty dishes on offer within the market.
Julija’s Palace is not the kind of vacation rental property you’re going to come across every day. It’s special, in more ways than one, and it’s available exclusively through Fine Ljubljana Apartments.
Built in 1775 the palatial building at 4 Wolfova Street would make a great place to stay in the heart of the Old City even without its famous poet connection. But, anyone interested in culture is really going to love staying here as this building was instrumental in the literature of Slovenia’s greatest poet, France Preseren.
His muse, Julija Primec, lived in the house behind this one, overlooking the inner courtyard where France would often come to socialize with friends. He fell in love with Julija and dedicated many of his poems to her, including his most famous Wreath of Sonnets. We nicknamed the building Julija’s Palace in recognition of France’s love for her.
Julija didn’t return his love though; whether it was because of their differences in status or simply because she wasn’t attracted to him, we’ll never know, but at least we can still read France’s wonderful poetry when staying in one of the building’s two apartments. There’s a one-bedroom apartment and a two-bedroom apartment as well as meeting and event spaces inside Julija’s Palace, and the whole building has been painstakingly restored to its original palatial grandeur.
Located on Preseren Square these have to be the most centrally located vacation apartments in Ljubljana’s Old City, so you cannot beat the location. And if you’re looking for a very special place to host a celebration or a meeting, consider the event spaces available on the ground floor of Julija’s Palace as these are sure to impress.
Throughout the building you’ll find grand architecture and many original pieces of furniture dating from the time the building was first constructed. The two apartments are bright and spacious, and benefit from views over the square and out towards Ljubljana Castle, and they include many creature comforts such as AC, Wi-Fi, flat screen TVs, and modern fitted kitchens and bathrooms.
You can read more about France Preseren, Julija Primic, the history of Julija’s Palace, and detailed descriptions of the two apartments on our
